Vet Nurse
Nicole
From an early age, Nicole had always dreamed of working in the animal/pet care field. She perused this dream by enrolling to study the Animal Care course at TAFE soon after graduating school. Around this same time, she gained her fist job at O’Malleys Petshop, who specialized in fish and bird care. During her last year of study in 2005, she joined the Wallsend Vet Team as a work experience student. It was soon after joining our team that her passion and potential were quickly recognized, so Nicole was offered a position on our Team as a veterinary nurse. Nicole already had a long history with Wallsend Vet before this, as we were her families vet clinic for her childhood dog.
After 13 years at Wallsend Vet, in 2018, she decided to take on an afterhours position at the Newcastle Animal Emergency Centre (NAREC), mainly working night shifts. Nicole says that it was difficult juggling her family life while working only night shifts, so in 2020 she also accepted a casual position at an Exotic Animal Hospital where she gained valuable experience working with small animals and reptiles, a positive change which gifted her more time with her family by allowing her to work both days and nights.
But in 2021, she found herself being drawn back to her Vet Nursing birth place, Wallsend Vet Hospital. At the present, Nicole still continues to work casually at the Emergency Centre, as she loves the challenge of Emergency and critical care. Nicole says that being able to assist the patients and their owners during their most difficult times is always very rewarding.
In her spare time, Nicole loves spending time with her family, going on camping trips, or supporting her young children at their sport days. Her hobby includes breeding budgerigars, a passion she picked up from her Dad when she was around 15 years old. Since then, she has hand raised hundreds of budgies over the years and says they are very easy companions to raise and keep.
